We were called out by a local letting agent to gain entry to a flat at The General, Redcliffe. Their tenant had lost keys and was locked out. Luckily, we are specialists in non-destructive entry. We were able to pick the lock, and the let the tenant back in fast and efficiently. Once we opened the door, we noticed that the lock did not meet fire safety regulations for a rental property. It was key-lockable from both sides. We gave the letting agent a call, and explained this, and we also explained it would save them some money if I replaced the lock while I was there. They gave us the go ahead, and we replaced the lock with a thumb-turn version. The principle is the same, however it avoids the need to find a key to unlock the door from the inside in an emergency.
