A customer I have done several jobs for in BS9 called up requesting an additional deadlock being fitted on their inner, wooden front door.
There are many options here not only regarding the finish or style of the lock, but the level of security they are looking for. Typically, the higher level of security that a lock offers, the more expensive the lock is, as well as the labour cost. So it is always worth going through these options and prices with customers before booking the job in.
In this case, they already had two very high security, insurance compliant locks fitted on their main front door, so I explained that from an insurance perspective, there was no need to go down the route of a BS3621 deadlock on this door, and that it would save them a fair bit of money to have a more basic deadlock fitted.
After discussing the options and prices, they decided to go for a 3 lever mortice deadlock. They also wanted a couple of extra keys cut for family members, so I cut these from the van and tested them in the lock.
