upvc door lock in downend:
We had a call from a homeowner in Downend regarding their upvc door lock. They found that suddenly the handle wouldn’t lift up, and was jamming half-way. This of course meant that they could not lock the door.
As always, we scheduled the job in with them over the phone, and arrived within the hour. It was a broken gearbox / centre case. The van is extremely well stocked with all of the variations of these gearbox’s, so we put a new one in, and the handle was now operating perfectly. As suspected however, the door itself though, when closed wasn’t aligned properly with the frame, meaning it was stiff to operate.
Alignment issues are often the cause of a gearbox breaking. We adjusted the height of the door and moved the receiving plates slightly, and it was now working perfectly (meaning all of the hooks and bolts were slotting into the receiving plates smoothly).
This job is another example of why maintenance can save you money in the long term. If you find that lifting the handle of your upvc door is becoming increasingly stiff, it is best to call a locksmith to make some adjustments to ensure that there is not too much pressure on the moving parts inside the gearbox when operating.
