We received a call from a resident of Clifton, BS8. The address walking distance from Whiteladies Road. They were having trouble opening the door with a yale lock. When we arrived, we advised that it was an adjustment to the receiving plate that was required. However it was a basic yale lock, which did not meet Insurance Standards, and the deadlock was also very basic. Due to this, we advised an upgrade rather than the adjustment. The customer was happy to go ahead with the lock upgrade, and we installed a BS3621 Auto-Deadlocking Nightlatch. This model has all of the required security ratings for an external door, while working in effectively the same way as the previous one. There is always a choice of finish, from brass, polished chrome and satin chrome.
Another option which we discussed, was leaving the existing Yale lock, but upgrading the deadlock to a BS3621 rated model instead, but the customer decided the yale was the better option, because this is the lock they rely on most.
